Counterintuitively, for the fourth year running, the winners of 148Apps annual “Best App Ever” contest have just been announced at Macworld / iWorld 12012. And my girlfriend’s going to be positively giddy, because the app that she’s spent most of the last year grinding her fingers down to the bone playing has won: Halfbrick Studio’s Jetpack Joyride!
Although 148Apps had a lot of different categories of apps to vote on, the 2011 Best App Ever was obviously the most sought-after award… and interestingly, the top three winners were all games: Jetpack Joyride came in first, Temple Run came in second and Tiny Wings came in third.
Honorable mentions went to Infinity Blade II and Where’s My Water?
Overall, Jetpack Joyride won with 36,431 votes, which was ten times the number of votes cast for the most popular Android app (Android apps are a new addition as part of the Best App Ever awards).
Frankly, it couldn’t have all happened to a nicer app: Jetpack Joyride is a phenomenal game, especially for its currently free asking price.

John Browniee you do know it is not MacWorld it is Macworld – big pet peeve of mine – you write for a Mac site – at least know a bit about the biggest expo/event out there for the Mac

Nah, I only download the free ones or if they are really interesting. There was an interesting app called launch center that I wanna look into.
